Urad dal is hulled, split black gram, Vigna mungo
Mung dal is hulled, split green gram, Vigna radiatia
Masur dal is hulled, split red lentil, Lens culinaris
Chana dal is hulled, split bengal gram, Cicer arietinum
All are pulses, members of the legume/pea family, Fabaceae.
And, yes, they differ greatly in taste and texture, and aren't all interchangeable.
