condiment, ethnic, indian

2 oz white sesame seeds
1 sea salt; to taste
1 fresh green chilli; chopped
1 pinch asafoetida powder
1/2 teaspoon white cumin seeds
1 tablespoon raw cane sugar
2 tablespoon tamarind juice
1 tablespoon mint leaves; shredded

You must have heard of sweet and savoury snacks made of sesame seeds, but I am not sure if it is widely known that a delightful sweet-and-sour chutney can also be made from sesame seeds. make it and give your family and friends a pleasant surprise. 1. Clean the sesame seeds, and soak them in warm water for about 15 minutes. Thjen drain off the water, and place the sesame seeds on the "sil". 2. Add salt, chilli, asafoetida, cumin and sugar, and using the "batta" grind into a fine paste (or use mortar and pestle). 3. Remove to a serving bowl, and add the tamarind juice and any additional salt and blend thoroughly. 4. Garnish with mint and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes; serve when needed.
